LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB

i've decided to say sth to show my support for Liverpool Football Club. sometimes the people in the media really do come across as naive and childish. sorry jie and pa. granted that the media these days may like to blow things up and like exaggerate, make things more spectacular than they are to capture the imagination of readers, but sometimes it is really quite stupid leh.

I remembered about arsenal's season in 1997-98, so i got this from the net.
'On 1 March 1998, Manchester United were 11 points ahead at the top of the Premiership and looked all set for a fifth title success in six seasons. One bookmaker even paid out on the punters who had bet on United winning the league. But Arsenal had three games in hand, and Arsène Wenger's men won 1-0 at Old Trafford in mid-March to cut the gap to 6 points.'

And as you all know Arsenal went on to win the title in the final closing weeks.

so today, following liverpool's 1-1 draw with wigan, i went soccernet and i see:
All over for Benitez? All the pics as Liverpool suffer a blow to end their slim title dreams.
and at holland v market i saw this guy reading this paper with the big words : LIVERPOOL KAPUT

and it's only halfway thru the season.. liverpool are 12 pts behind arsenal with 1 game in hand and yes that's a big gap.. but there's still like 18 games to go..
we're definitely not in the best position to go on and win the title, but hey who would have thought arsenal would win in 1998. anything can happen and i feel sorry for people who like to write things off prematurely cos they never ever give themselves a chance to believe in things that are hard to achieve, or even miracles. (Maybe it makes these people a little happier when they convince themselves yay liverpool is out of the race)
and that's what true sporting heroes, or even heroes in life are made of right. when u believe that you can do sth that everyone believes u can't, or when u try the seemingly impossible.
nobody thought liverpool would go on to win the champions league in 2005 when we were 3-0 down at half-time. or even that man utd would win the champions league in 1998 when up to the 88th minute they were still 1-0 down.

so i like to believe in doing things that people don't believe you can do. isn't that what makes life exciting.. and isn't that how true inspirational life/sporting stories come about.

everybody seems to like to laugh off other people's chances at doing sth when it seems 'impossible' and if those people were really affected by the unbelief of their peers, wouldn't it be so sad if the world was not able to witness the acts of sporting heroes like Lance Armstrong or Jennifer Capriati and so many other people, or even my dad for that matter..

(Capriati won her third Grand Slam title in 2002, when she successfully defended her Australian Open crown. In the final against Hingis, Capriati was down 6-4, 4-0 but battled back to win 4-6, 7-6, 6-2. She saved 4 championship points during the final, which is a record for most match points saved during a Grand Slam tournament final)

i remember when i was young i read about what Gabriel Batistuta said in a soccer magazine, when asked what advice he had to young boys wanting to be soccer stars : Just believe you can do it.

and so, i believe Liverpool still have a chance this season. and i hope that you, will give yourself a chance to do the things that people clearly believe you can't. Just believe.

COME ON YOU REDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Walk on, walk on with hope,
in your heart,
and you'll never walk alone,
You'll never walk alone.
